Monster: Paradisum Lich
A downloadable monster
The Paradisium Lich has forgotten his true name, lost countless eons ago when he was cast from the heavens for committing the first sin. As punishment, the gods saw fit to rob him of just enough memory that he cannot recall the fields of paradise, yet leave him with just enough memory that it pains his every waking moment in this sick “reality.” Perhaps they are testing him. There must be a way back. And though every mortal die, every star fall, every thread of reality fray, the Paradisium Lich is determined to take his place among the gods once more.
The Lich was the first monster we designed for MONSTROUS, and the Paradisium Lich was the first form we designed. To showcase how you can apply MONSTROUS to another system, we’ve given the 5e Lich the full treatment, giving stats to the MONSTROUS abilities and adjusting the Lich’s spell list and lair actions to match this new and improved Lich.
What is Monstrous?
MONSTROUS is a system-agnostic tool for fantasy tabletop roleplaying games, the go-to reference for telling better stories through monsters. It brings fear, wonder, & mystery back into monsters while demystifying the process of writing them.
MONSTROUS is a beautiful art book, using lavish paintings, illustrations, prose, and poetry to inspire you to build and explore worlds populated by dark mythic monsters.
MONSTROUS champions the idea that different monsters should lead to different stories. A Dragon & a Lich can both be mastermind archvillains, but the differences between them should be deeper than the type of damage they deal, & they should lead to unique roleplay opportunities.
MONSTROUS empowers you to seize the creative reins, to craft monsters that uniquely fit your fantasy worlds and stories.
